There are even those of us who have a route from our light switch to the bed calculated for the least number of footfalls possible and most efficient way to traverse the path of darkness and danger. Those three steps (sometimes two if I'm up for the leap) and approximately 7 feet encompass the only instance of vulnerability encountered before I reach protection.
